Getting Around

Once in Porto, traveling around the city is easy. Below are some helpful tips for navigating the city.

  • Walking is, in our opinion, the best way to see the city. However, steep winding walkways can be a challenge for some guests.

If you are planning to explore the city by foot, here are some things to know:

    • Wear comfortable shoes!

    • Start Uptown

      • The entire city slopes steeply uphill on either side of the river

      • Whenever possible, start your excursions at your furthest point from the river, and work your way downhill

    • Downtown, along the river, is relatively flat with plenty of food, shops, and nightlife to explore

    • Plan your route

      • a 15 minute walk might feel like a marathon uphill

    • Taxis are available, but not reliable. NOT RECOMMENDED

    • Rideshare Apps are very reasonably priced and reliable

      • Uber is available but, we recommend downloading BOLT before your trip

        • BOLT works the same but it has better prices and availability
